In 1939, Type 72 was listed as being CONFIDENTIAL. It was a W/T set to do with the communications between an aircraft carrier and her planes on higher than normal (at that time) VHF frequencies and using voice (R/T) which still had not been perfected by the Admiralty Signal Establishment. We do not hold any further information on the Type72 but we do know that it was fitted in the Ark Royal, Courageous, Eagle, Furious, Glorious, Hermes and the 72d was fitted in the Formidable and Indomitable.
